About Birmingham International Airport
Birmingham International Airport (AITA: BHK) is the major airport for Birmingham, located in the borough of Solihull. The airport was opened on 8 July 1939 and during World War 2 was used as an army base by RAF. In 1984, with the increase of international flights, a new terminal was opened. A second hub was opened on 26 July 1991, increasing the airport's passenger capacity to almost double. Even with the new and modern styling, the original 1939 art deco style is still present. The airport was also a leg in the Concorde's final journey.
