About Nottingham East Midlands Airport

Nottingham East Midlands Airport (IATA: EMA) is located near Castle Donington. The airport is used to service Derby, Leicester, and Nottingham. Originally created as an RAF station, by 1985 over one million passengers were going through the airport a year. It was the first airport in the UK to be privatised in 1993, climbing to over 2.4 million passengers ever year. It a controversial move, the airport was renamed from East Midlands Airport to Nottingham East Midlands airport in 2004, even though it was closer to Leicestershire.
