About London Heathrow

London Heathrow Airport (AITA: LHR) is the UK's busiest airport, and third busiest in the world.

The airport began in the 1930s as the Great Western Aerodrome, primarily used for testing purposes. In 1944 the airport came under the control of government, and in 1946 the first civil flight took place. The airport officially opened in 1946, and by 1947 had three runways, with three more under construction. Terminal 4 was opened in 1986, and became the home for British Airways.
