About Newcastle International Airport

Newcastle International Airport (IATA: NCL) is the ninth largest airport in the UK, handling an expected 5.4 million passengers in 2005. The airport opened on 26 July 1935, and runway expansion occurred in the 1960s. By 1970, over one million passengers used the airport per year, and in 2000 a �27 million extension was opened by Prime Minister Tony Blair.
