Manchester Airport is a large and busy airport in the north of England, with flights to approx 200 destinations. The airport has 3 passenger terminals and serves in the region of 19 million passengers a year.
If you are driving to the airport, it is easily located at J5 of the M56, which in turn links to the M6 and the M60. The airport has plenty of parking, in fact it has 16 car parks with over 22,000 parking spaces. That said, it is still advisable to pre-book.
For local traffic the airport is surrounded by major A roads or, if you are travelling from the city, the Metrolink might be a good option. Trams run every 12 to 15 minutes between the airport itself and the Cornbrook interchange.
The Runway Visitor Park is a popular attraction close to the terminals and has panoramic views over the runway from purpose built viewing platforms. The park has 5 retired aircraft to discover, but a tour must be booked to enter the Concorde Hangar which houses Concorde G-BOAC. Within the park grounds, there is also a play area for children, a picnic area, take away, restaurants and car parking.
Once inside your terminal you have free WiFi for 60 minutes. If you find yourself in the wrong terminal for your flight, there is a SkyWalk which connects all three.
You can speed up the check-in process by printing your own boarding card at one of the Express Self Check-in Kiosks which are located in each of the Terminals. You can also pre-book to take the FastTrack lane through security.
All three terminals have a Biza Tax & Duty Free shop (after security). Flight information screens, toilets, baby changing facilities, internet kiosks, elevators, cash points and currency exchange facilities are located throughout the terminals.
Facilities in Terminal 1 include Boots, WH Smith, Spar, JD Sport, Next, The Body Shop, Kurt Geiger, Pandora, Victoria's Secret, a variety of accessory shops, fast food outlets and deli counters; coffee houses including Caffe Ritazza and Soho, bars and restaurants such as Giraffe and The Grain Loft.
